On December 3, 2019, the Mississippi Enterprise for Technology (MSET) is hosting a training class on DFARS clause 252.204-7012 that details Cybersecurity Requirements for ALL government contractors, their subcontractors, and suppliers. If you have a contract with a federal agency or a subcontract with a prime contractor or are a supplier to Department of Defense (DoD) agencies/contractors, your company must be compliant with these regulations in order to continue these relationships.
This is a government regulation that outlines how Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) should be stored in nonfederal systems and organizations. This clause points to NIST (National Institutes of Standards and Technology) 800-171 as the standard for managing CUI data. These regulations can greatly impact many companies that have contracts with the DoD as well as their sub-contractors and suppliers. If a business has DFARS clause 252.204-7012 in an active contract, they are required to be in compliance with the 110 security controls outlined in NIST 800-171. If not in compliance, they are at risk of invalidating that contract.
Through a Department of Economic Adjustment grant with the University of Southern Mississippi, the Mississippi State University Center for Cyber Innovation (CCI) has developed a class to inform companies about free tools available to meet NIST 800-171 compliance standards. Using these tools, MSU simplifies the steps needed to be compliant and to continue supporting DoD contracts, subcontractors, and purchase requests.
This training is free, but registration is required. The class will take place in Room D of the INFINITY Science Center (1 Discovery Circle, Pearlington, MS 39572) beginning at 9:00am and ending approximately noon.
Additionally, MSET has arranged for companies that provide assistance in becoming compliant to attend this training and will assess your systems/processes at no cost.
Also to be provided is information on Mississippi Coding Academies and highlights of companies that can assist you if you need extra assistance with NIST 800-171 compliance.
